I know that many people will ignore the science in favor of the convenience. It is very difficult to fight the tide when there are so many internet sites pushing worksheets at parents, and so many reputable textbook companies doing likewise. It is difficult to remember the reasons to avoid them when one has very little time to devote to working with math. Worksheets just seem so much easier than doing things any other way. Can they really cause harm? The answer, of course, is YES they can. In my perfect world of mathematics education, no pre-school child is ever exposed to a worksheet of any kind. I would swing my magic wand, all worksheets would disappear, and the memory of them would be gone forever. In the real world, I know that simply will not happen. There will still be some parents who will insist on using worksheets.
Other features include English verb resources, inversion and adding emphasis in English through cleft sentences and inversions. Their English verb resources include an extensive English verb resource that has information on verb conjugation, auxiliary verbs, phrasal verbs, verb and patterns. A simple guide to inversion also discusses the various forms used for inverted sentences. This includes the negatives such as never, scarcely, only after, little and many more. Another feature includes Discourse Markers. Formal English is definitely more difficult than informal English. Ideas need to flow logically from one to the other. An example of this is when two sentences are connected by a discourse.
What you can do to make working on printable worksheets more enjoyable for your child may often depend on the age and interests of the child. For example, older children may have to read a poem which is on the sheet and then write their own poem in the same sort of style. If they have been used to playing word games while growing up this should not be a problem, you just have to find a way of making the doing of it attractive. One thing that they might enjoy is if you put on a favourite cd and get them to see if they can use some of the main phrases from that in a different way, i.e. in the style of the poem. Depending on your child has age and concentration span there are plenty of fun ways to get them working on printable worksheets.
